How to read the data on WhichGoat

Every number on a breed page carries a small marker after it. Tap or hover the marker to see the source, its tier, and the date we checked it. A collapsed Sources block at the foot of each page lists everything in one place.

Where a field says "Not found in our sources," that is a checked absence, not a shrug. We looked at the breed's registry and at least one extension or research source and neither carried a figure. Where two credible sources disagree, we show both rather than averaging them into a number nobody actually published.

A range labeled "typical" or "range" comes from an observed or survey figure. A range labeled "minimum" or "maximum" comes from a registry standard and answers a different question, the heaviest or lightest an animal may be and still be registered, not what most animals actually weigh. We never mix the two into one ranking.
