Miniature goat breeds explained

Miniature is a size class, not a purpose. A miniature breed can be dairy (Nigerian Dwarf, Mini Nubian), a companion breed (Pygmy), or a fiber-influenced cross (Pygora). What makes it miniature is a doe height typically at or below about 25 inches at the withers, sourced from the breed's own standard where one exists.

The Miniature Dairy Goat Association registers a family of scaled-down dairy breeds, Mini Alpine, Mini LaMancha, Mini Nubian, Mini Oberhasli, Mini Saanen, Mini Toggenburg and Mini Guernsey, bred down from standard dairy lines while keeping dairy conformation and production traits.
